Practice pushing hands

Pushing Hands

Pushing Hands is a practice in pairs that teaches listening, timing, internal structure and the ability to remain stable, soft and present even in a live encounter with another person.

In practice you learn to feel direction, pressure, weight changes and movement through continuous and gentle contact. Instead of brute force or too fast a response, the work emphasizes listening, a clear center, and a precise response out of stillness.

Pushing Hands deepens the understanding of the principles of tai chi: root, relaxation, absorption, transport and intelligent transfer of power. It connects the personal template with a live, safe and conscious application with a partner.

The practice is suitable for beginners and advanced students alike, and develops not only physical skill but also patience, concentration and the ability to remain relaxed within communication and movement.

  • Developing listening through continuous contact and joint movement.
  • Deepening in the root, center, timing and balance.
  • Gentle and safe application of tai chi principles in couples.
  • Strengthening presence, concentration and effortless response.
